Actually, Friday the 13th is my lucky day. I was born on a Friday the 13th after all and today really did turn out to be great. We got our internet back and I finished up a pretty tough week in one piece. Success! However, in keeping to the true spirit of the day I thought I’d share the most recent horror film I’ve seen.
Any guesses:
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens
What I love about this movie [aside from the art direction] is that it was made during what was perhaps the first “Vampire Fever” [symptoms include a bad case of ‘twi-hard’ and ‘true-blooditis, personally I’m still recovering from my Buffy-ectomy in the 90s].Back in the teens everyone was so caught up in how awesome Bram Stoker’s Dracula was and so F.W. Murnau made and unlicensed movie about it…switchin’ few names here and there but essentially: Count Orlok = Count Dracula. Oh, he got sued pretty hard. However, this film is a wonderful predecessor to not only a great visual style but an amazing tradition in cinema –> capitalizing on how much we are enamored by the undead.
