Don’t forget the “S” !
Mr. Johns Hopkins inherited his first name “Johns” from his grandfather (also Johns Hopkins) who received his first name from his mother Margaret “Johns”. Ahhh, there we go, so don’t forget that “s” when you are saying the name.
Johns Hopkins made his fortunes in Baltimore as a merchant and banker with an estate of $7 million (approximately $137.3 million today!). Upon his death on Christmas eve in 1873, he left his fortune to be used to found two institutes: “Johns Hopkins Hospital” and “Johns Hopkins University.” At the time it was the largest philanthropic bequest in the history of the United States.
Thank you Mr. Hopkinssssssss (oh, ok you don’t have to stretch out that “S”) !
